PCLinuxOS 2009.1 Final Released

The Ripper Gang is pleased to announce the final public ISO release of PCLinuxOS 2009.1.

This release features kernel 2.6.26.8.tex3, KDE 3.5.10, Open Office 3.0, Firefox 3.0.7, Thunderbird 2.0.0.14, Ktorrent, Frostwire, Amarok, Flash, Java JRE, Compiz-Fusion 3D and much more. We decided to use kde3-5-10 as our default desktop as we could not achieve a similar functionality from kde4. We will however offer kde4 as an alternative desktop environment available from the repository once we stabilize it. PCLinuxOS is an rpm based distribution utilizing apt-get with a Synaptic Software Manager frontend. In addition to the above PCLinuxOS comes with mklivecd GUI, a nice utility to build a custom live CD from your install. Install or remove what you want then remaster your own cd. Great for backups or to give to friends. PCLinuxOS is also known as as rolling release distribution. What that means is you install once and update it when new applications become available from our repository.

Ubuntu Muslim Edition is a set of packages that customizes the Ubuntu distro by installing islamic software (prayer times, Quran study tool, web content filtering tool etc.) and by changing its design.
Why a "Muslim Edition"?

Ubuntu is a great distro, easy to use for a novice user, with the most-used Office, Internet, Graphics and Video applications already installed but we think that for Muslim users it would be great to have “out of the box” Islamic software and tools installed as well.

Dreamlinux Team is proud to announce the final version of Dreamlinux 3.5.

Dreamlinux is a Linux distribution based on Debian Stable (Lenny) with several customizations and many additions.

Continuing the tradition started with Dreamlinux series 3.x, this 3.5 release is ready to meet the requirements of a regular desktop user.

An extensive list of libraries, utilities and applications needed to support multimedia, graphics design and office tasks, come packaged in a CD-sized iso image.
A DVD iso image with more applications is also available.

Easy, simple, fast!
You can install Dreamlinux on hard disks already partitioned or not. You can also install a complete new GRUB boot manager, with a nice
Dreamlinux themed splashscreen or you can include the Dreamlinux load information into an existing GRUB boot manager.

Dreamlinux Installer automatically detects existing linux partitions and allows you to repartition disks prior to installation. It also allows you to install your /home dir into a separate partition, as well as almost any other dir you want. So, if, for instance, you customized Dreamlinux to a server distro you can install your /var, /usr, /usr/local, /opt, /srv, /boot, and /tmp to different partitions.

Better yet, any customizations you did during the LiveCD session will be maintained after installation.

New to this version of DLI is the possibility to install Dreamlinux to a disk, using it completely, not worrying about partitioning and the likes

Linux - Zenwalk 6.0

Zenwalk 6.0 has been released !

We are proud to announce the 6th major version of Zenwalk GNU/Linux. This release comes with the biggest changelog in the history of the project to offer many new features and optimizations.

As usual, our challenge was to provide latest versions of the most modern applications as well as kernel, while keeping the usual level of simplicity and performance that makes Zenwalk special in the GNU/Linux world.

We spent the 2 last months polishing the desktop around the new XFCE 4.6, making sure that this brand new version is well integrated into Zenwalk 6.0.

We also replaced Gnome Office with our lightweight and optimized version of Openoffice 3.0.1, splited in 2 packages : the base package provides Writer, Calc, Impress and Draw ; the “extra” package (available via Netpkg) provides Math, Darabase and Java support.

The Totem movie player is also part of the adventure, replacing Mplayer, which is still available from our growing package repository.

Here's a summary of the most important changes :

- Kernel 2.6.28.7 with gspca (supports many USB webcams)
- The new XFCE 4.6
- Openoffice 3.0.1 replaces Gnome Office as the main productivity suite
- Wicd becomes the main network configuration tool
- New Zenpanel with integrated Disk Manager, Wifi and Wired Network Manager
- Gksu keyring based desktop granting system
- Faster boot (tuned init scripts, with realtime I/O scheduler)
- PAM authentication has been added to the system
- Improved suspend/hibernate, with XFCE Power Manager
- new Netpkg with orphan dependencies and "offline operation" support
- The powerful Exaile juke-box stream player has been added
- New artwork
- A simplified installer

OzOs is an elegant stable environment of beauty, specifically "The Reality Different". OzOS is built on Xubuntu or to be more exact a Debian base and utilizes the sexy Enlightenment 17 Desktop. This is a special version of e17 that is brought to you by the most discriminating e17 user: Rui Pais; with his precious time and Enlightenment knowledge, he has created a Distro that is OzOS. Rui's easy "e17 SVN Deb" was the founding blueprint for the OzOS Live CD(With Installer) RC.

Rui's e17 SVN Deb is the foundation of OzOS along with Xubuntu, this is further customized with Rui's OzOS-Desktop.
